A thought: we have the feeling that the song pre-exists in the spiritual realm, even before we start working on it. Our task, therefore, is to transport it from there to here, into this world, and make it available for others.

 

Genealogy of a song:

 

The musician starts his work from an inspiration that may come in the form of a musical part, a riff, a progression, a rhythm, a lyrics line, etc.

 

From there, however, he has to develop the musical material and turn it into a complete song, that will include melody, harmony and eventually the music arrangement.

 

Now, the question is: what makes a song a good song?
